Mirror finish, never in vain
The SJ-250 Japanese Whetstone is designed for sharpening hand tools such as wood carving tools, knives, chisels, plane irons and wood chisels that need minimal steel removal and a superior cutting edge. It is ideal for sharpening enthusiasts who want to be able to admire their reflection in their bevels but also for meticulous craftsmen looking for perfectly clean cuts.
It has been designed to give the tool the finest surface finish; its abrasive power is therefore limited and it cannot be used to form a tool. If you need to create a blade for your tool, it is best to use another grinding wheel first and then use the SJ-250 Japanese Whetstone for the finishing touches.
The unique composition of the grinding wheel gives it a very long lifespan. It is generally not necessary to de-hone the leather de-honing disc afterwards given the fine finish achieved by the SJ-250 Japanese Whetstone.
Low maintenance, long lifespan
You should clean the surface of the grinding wheel at regular intervals to remove fine metal particles. To do this, use the fine side of the SP-650 Wheel Preparer or the rough side of a sponge. Do not use the coarse side of the wheel preparer on the SJ-250 Japanese Whetstone, as this will damage the wheel.
The SJ-250 Japanese Whetstone is suitable for the Tormek T-8, Tormek T-7 and older models accepting a 250mm (9 7/8") diameter and 50mm (2") wheel. width. A smaller version, the SJ-200 Japanese Whetstone, is also available for our compact Tormek T-4 system.
